There are several ways to get involved at the Church of the
Assumption. Our ministries are grouped into four categories below. Click
on each to learn more.

Note: Some volunteering opportunities requires VIRTUS training.

Faith Enrichment Ministries

Religious Education & Sacramental Preparation

Religion classes for kindergarten through tenth grade students are held on Saturday mornings. Help students develop an understanding and appreciation of their Catholic faith.

Becoming Catholic

Parish sponsors are needed to mentor adult participants interested in learning more about and/or becoming a member of the Catholic Church.

Marriage Mentor Couples

Trained Married couples meet with engaged couples to administer the PREPARE Inventory and discuss various topics to help them prepare for their married life together.

Small Group

This year consider the opportunity to turn toward God with others in a small group for five weeks of Lent and one week after Easter.

Center for Catholic Social Thought

Since 1856, Assumption has been an important presence in St. Paul and in the Archdiocese and has always served the spiritual and real human needs of parishioners and our neighbors. The mission of the Center is to spread the message and practice of the Catholic Social Teaching my means of education, research, and conversation Catholic Social Teachings are treasures of our Catholic tradition. Outreach Ministries

Coats for Kids

Assist with the collection of winter apparel (jackets, snow pants, hats and mittens) purchased by parishioners for children in need.

Listening House

Spend time visiting people gathered at the Listening House and assisting staff.

Joseph’s Coat Free Store

Organize and distribute clothing, shoes, personal hygiene supplies, and small household goods for people in need.

Keystone Food Mobile

Volunteers help clients at Central Towers select food from the food mobile. Weekday hours.

Second Stork

Prepare packets of newborn baby supplies for new mothers in need at 130 Eva
Street, St. Paul.

Little Sisters of the Poor

Visit with residents and help deliver food at the Little Sister’s Family Residence on Exchange Street in St. Paul. Help is also needed with annual fundraisers.

Habitat for Humanity

Parishioners join with other neighboring churches to build a home for a family in need through the Faith Builders program. Workers of all skill levels are welcome.

Loaves & Fishes

Two groups of parishioner’s volunteer once a month to serve a meal at the Dorothy Day Center. One group serves dinner on the 3rd Tuesday of the month. The other group serves lunch on the 4th Sunday of the month.

Food Drives

Assist with food deliveries each week and with the parish food drives in November and March. Food is delivered to area food shelves.

Prayer Shawls

Needle workers create prayer shawls for adults in need of support and for babies at the time of their baptism.

Blood Drives

Partnering with the Red Cross, Assumption annually hosts two blood drives. Help with registration, phone calling or hospitality.

Cerenity – Marian of St. Paul

Spend time with seniors, helping them with activities, events and outings and Spiritual Care/Eucharistic Ministry.

Liturgy Ministries

Communion Ministers

Distribute Holy Communion at daily and weekend Masses.

Lectors

Proclaim the sacred scriptures at daily and weekend Masses.

Hospitality Ministers

Greet and help people with seating, take up the collection, and hand out the bulletins.

Altar Guild

Assists with sacristy work and the care of altar linens and sacred vessels.

Rehearsal & Wedding Coordinators

Lead the wedding rehearsal and assist the day of the wedding.

Sacristan

Assist the presider before and after Mass by setting and clearing the altar.

Funeral Assistance

If interested in assisting at times of bereavement and at funeral services at Assumption, please contact our Funeral Coordinator, Cindy Smetana, at csmetana@assumptionsp.org or 651-789-6933.

Community Ministries

Baptismal Gowns

Put the finishing touches on baptismal gowns for infant baptisms.

Coffee & Donut Sunday

Coffee and rolls are served monthly after all the Sunday Masses. Help with serving and cleaning up.

Hospitality

Volunteers are needed to help set-up, prepare and serve food at various parish events, including our St. Boniface Day celebration and funeral lunches.

Parish Visitors

Visit homebound parishioners and residents of care facilities, giving spiritual support and bringing communion.

Office Volunteers

Opportunities in the parish office include answering the phones, computer data entry, and helping with mailings.

Parish History Center

Work on parish history. Guides are also needed to welcome visitors and explain significant areas of our church during tours.

Prayer Team

Pray individually for the intentions submitted by parishioners, including requests dealing with health, finances, and family relationships.
